Summer Musical Grease

Local Artist Rebecca Sigler has unveiled her 7th sculpture in a beloved series celebrating live, local theatre. Titled “Mouse Lightening” the one-of-a-kind mouse piece is a handcrafted mouse sculpture inspired by MTVarts’ upcoming summer musical.

The tradition began in 2019 when Rebecca created her first mouse artwork — “Mice of Oz” — as a way to give back to the community. She presented it to Janis Stone and Bruce Jacklin as a fundraiser. The idea was embraced and has continued to grow each year.

Subsequent creations have included “Sound of Mice” (2021), “More Cheese Please” (2022), “Mouse Act” (2023), “Pawloose” (2024), “Nine to Five MiceX” (2025) leading to this year’s “Mouse Lightening.”

The sculpture is currently on display Paragraphs Bookstore ahead of the musical’s run from July 10–19 at the Woodward Opera House. Raffle tickets are available for purchase at Paragraphs prior to opening night and during each performance at the Opera House. Tickets are $1 each, and, as always, Sigler generously donates her artwork, with 100% of raffle proceeds benefiting MTVarts.

Sigler’s mouse-themed creations—along with her business, Mouse Craft—are a tribute to her grandmother, Leona C. Burgess, who inspired her love of mice. More of her work can be viewed at www.mousecraftstore.com.
