Education
Overview
MTVarts believes in the power of arts education. We focus on varying aspects of arts education, small group instruction, performance-based workshops, and partnerships to connect live theatre to the classroom.
Participating in the arts provides young people with a chance to explore their creativity and imagination in a structured and safe environment. Musical theatre is specifically remarkable because it is the only art form that combines all areas of the fine arts: acting, singing, dancing, music, and visual arts.
MTVarts provides a number of educational opportunities. for various age levels, regardless of income. To learn about financial assistance, please email Education@MTVarts.com
Our Mission
Encourage innovation and quality by nurturing empathy, respect, and responsibility in an environment for growth.
Classroom Connections
The 21st-century student experiencing live theatre in an educational environment has greater tolerance and improved ability to read the emotions of others, increased understanding of plot and vocabulary, and an appreciation for the arts. Measured in the lives engaged, the thoughts provoked, and the experience of seeing literature studied in the classroom come to life on the stage. Classroom Connections may be our most successful endeavor.
Working with the Knox County Education Service Center, students are invited to experience a free performance of live theatre.
artsIQ
artsIQ not only trains the next generation of actors and production crew, but it also nurtures an arts-appreciating audience. These performance-based workshops culminate in a full-scale musical production.
Youth Enrichment Series
Y.E.S. is designed to bring early school age children out of the classroom and to live performances in an effort to introduce them to the arts and theater at an early age.
Since 2014, artsIQ has provided hands-on arts education and free shows to thousands of elementary students.
MTVarts’ March performance is intended for grades K – 1
MTVarts’ September performance is intended for grades 2 – 3
Classic Series
MTVarts Classics Series honors our cultural and literary heritage with an educational outreach to secondary students. Our productions present authentic, uncensored works by iconic American playwrights, as the author intended.
Secondary students are invited to attend a free performance of works they have read in class. A cast/crew talk-back session is offered after the performance.
