Character Descriptions:
Dorothy Gale – Young, innocent girl with a tendency to find trouble. Loves her family, friends, and her dog, Toto. Must sign waiver to fly and work with live animal. Looking for beautiful singing, not stylized singing. Soprano/mezzo-soprano (Range: G3-C5 )
Aunt EM – A stern, hard-working farmer’s wife who beneath her no-nonsense exterior, deeply loves her niece, Dorothy.
Uncle Henry – A grounded but hardened farmer struggling to survive. Despite life on the hard prairie, he is a protective father-figure to Dorothy
Zeke/ Cowardly Lion – Farmhand and friend of Dorothy who turns into Lion in Oz. Must have resonant low notes as well as strong high F Baritone/Tenor (Range B flat to F).
Hickory / Tin Man – Farmhand and friend who turns into Tin Man in Oz. High Baritone/ Tenor (Range B flat to G).
Hunk/ Scarecrow – Farmhand and friend of Dorothy who turns into the Scarecrow in Oz. Tenor (Range B flat to A flat).
Glinda – The good witch. She is the beautiful protector of the Munchkins and Dorothy. Must sign waiver to fly. Mezzo-soprano or mezzo-contralto (Range G to C).
Guard of Oz – He guards the entrance of Oz. Tenor or Baritone (Range B flat to E flat).
Professor Marvel / Wizard of Oz – Friendly traveling salesman who convinces Dorothy to go back home to her family after she runs away and turns into the powerful ruler of the Emerald City. Non-singing role.
Mrs. Gulch / Wicked Witch of the West – The bad witch. She is green and mean. Dorothy’s enemy. Must sign waiver to fly.
Jitterbug Chorus – At times they sing in three parts.
Munchkins – At times they sing in three and four parts.

Crows – In the Scarecrow scene, prefer dancers as well as singers. Some dialogue. Men in T, T, B voicing – One tenor must be a high tenor – They sing in three parts, must be able to harmonize. May be asked to sign waiver to fly.
Trees – They are not happy when Dorothy picks their apples. Must be able to harmonize. Ability to tap dance a plus. Some dialogue. Women in SSA voicing – They sing in three parts.
Winkie General
Winkies – Guards for the Wicked Witch.
Nikko – The Wicked Witch’s right-hand monkey. Waiver required.
Winged Monkies – The army for the Wicked Witch. 1 or 2 may fly. Waiver required.
Ozians – People who live in the Emerald City.
