Register for Auditions Online

Anyone interested in auditioning will be asked to choose either the morning or afternoon session.  Please come prepared with any song from a musical or the specific character requirement below. 

You will be performaing a brief choreographed dance so wear comfortable clothing and shoes appropriate for dance.  No sandals or flip flop. Plan to stay for the full 2 hours.

Auditions will take place at warehouse14 on the corner of Ohio Avenue and Blackberry Alley.

CHARACTER LIST

Dorothy Gale – Must appear to be 14 to 19 years of age.  Young, innocent girl with a tendency to find trouble.  Loves her family, friends, and her dog, Toto. Must sign waiver to fly and work with live animal. Looking for beautiful singing, not stylized singing.
Soprano/mezzo-soprano   Audition piece: Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Page 10, #4, Low to C, measures 5-48 for initial audition, measures 6-25 for callbacks.

Zeke/ Cowardly Lion – Must be able to appear 20 – 45. Farmhand and friend of Dorothy who turns into Lion in Oz. Must have resonant low notes as well as strong high F
Baritone/Tenor (Range B flat to F).   Audition piece: If I Only Had the Nerve Page 84, #23, measures 1-25

Hickory / Tin Man – Must be able to appear 20 – 45.  Farmhand and friend who turns into Tin Man in Oz.
High Baritone/ Tenor (Range B flat to G).  Audition piece - If I Only Had a Heart Page 70, # 19, measures 6-28

Hunk/ Scarecrow – Must be able to appear 20 – 45.  Farmhand and friend of Dorothy who turns into the Scarecrow in Oz.
Tenor (Range B flat to A flat).  Audition piece: If I Only Had a Brain Page 59, #16, measures 36-51

Glinda – The good witch.  Age range 25 +. She is the beautiful protector of the Munchkins and Dorothy.  Must sign waiver to fly.
Mezzo-soprano or mezzo-contralto (Range G to C). Audition piece: Munchkin Musical Sequence #11, to the top of page 32

Guard of Oz – He guards the entrance of Oz.
Tenor or Baritone (Range B flat to E flat). Audition piece: Merry Old Land of Oz Page 113, #28, measures 12-21

Professor Marvel / Wizard of Oz – Age range 25+ years.  Friendly traveling salesman who convinces Dorothy to go back home to her family after she runs away and turns into the powerful ruler of the Emerald City.  Non-singing role.

Mrs. Gulch / Wicked Witch of the West – Age range 25 +.  The bad witch. She is green and mean.  Dorothy’s enemy. Audition piece: Any song from a musical or a folk song. Must cackle.  Must sign waiver to fly.

The following roles may audition with any song from a musical or a folk song.

Jitterbug Chorus - At times they sing in three parts.
Audition piece: Any song from a musical or a folk song

Munchkins – Age 12 up to and including adults height 5’1” and under will be considered. At times they sing in three and four parts.
Audition piece: Any song from a musical or a folk song

The following Munchkins have speaking or solo lines:

  • Mayor
  • Coroner
  • Fiddler Solo
  • Braggart
  • Barrister
  • The Lullaby League
  • The Lollipop League
  • City Fathers

Crows – In the Scarecrow scene, prefer dancers as well as singers. Some dialogue.  Men in T, T, B voicing - One tenor must be a high tenor - They sing in three parts, must be able to harmonize. May be asked to sign waiver to fly.
Audition piece: Any song from a musical or a folk song that shows their best range

Trees - They are not happy when Dorothy picks their apples.  Must be able to harmonize. Ability to tap dance a plus. Some dialogue. Women in SSA voicing - They sing in three parts.

Winkie General

Winkies – Guards for the Wicked Witch.  Adult men.

Nikko – The Wicked Witch’s right-hand monkey.

Winged Monkies – The army for the Wicked Witch.  1 or 2 may fly. Waiver required.

Ozians – People who live in the Emerald City.
Audition piece: Any song from a musical or a folk song

Optimistic Voices - also known as the Girls' Chorus - We will probably use 6, 9 or 12 voices, depending on the auditions.  Range high soprano to alto|
Audition piece: Any song from a musical or a folk song

Featured Dancers – (6)
May audition as non-singing, but may be asked to sing in chorus. Inform at time of registration.

    • Flight training: June 23-June 26 (day time hours required for flying characters)
    • Tech: June 23-July 4
    • Performance: July 6-July 14
